Aberteifi means the mouth of the river Teifi. Its English name, Cardigan, doesn't derive from the residents' fondness for woollen jackets, it comes from English speaker's inability to say Ceredigion (Ceredigs Land) hence it became Cardigan.
It was the location of the very first Eisteddfod in 1176.
