Cardiff City Cardiff Arms - T-Shirt
Between 1908 and 1959, Cardiff City didn't have a badge — they had a coat of arms. And what a coat of arms. Granted to the city and borrowed with civic pride, it's an absolute belter of heraldry: a red dragon doing what red dragons do, a goat (yes, a goat), and some sort of magnificent semi-aquatic horse creature that defies easy classification. Bonkers, brilliant, and very Cardiff.
When Riverside AFC became Cardiff City FC in 1908 — following Cardiff's elevation to city status — the club leant into its new identity by wearing elements of Cardiff's civic coat of arms on special occasions. No slick badge, no clean crest. Just the full, glorious chaos of Welsh civic heraldry on a football shirt.
This tee celebrates that era: the years before the Bluebird, when Cardiff City's identity was rooted in the city itself. It wasn't until 1959 that the first official badge appeared — a bluebird — and everything changed. But for half a century, the coat of arms was Cardiff City's symbol, and it's one worth remembering.
