GLYN EBWY - T-Shirt
Glyn Ebwy — or Ebbw Vale in English, which sounds like something you'd name a racehorse. There is evidence of very early human activity in the area: Y Domen Fawr is a Bronze Age burial cairn above the town, and at Cefn Manmoel there is a demarcation dyke of neolithic or medieval origins. In relatively modern times the area was a quiet uplands spot in rural Monmouthshire, with only about 120 inhabitants at the end of the 18th century. Then the Industrial Revolution arrived and absolutely ruined the peace and quiet, in the best possible way.
The steelworks that defined the town for generations closed in 2002. The town hosted the Garden Festival of Wales in 1992 and the National Eisteddfod in 2010. It has a Wetherspoons now, which is either progress or a warning, depending on your outlook.
