In 1953 Cabinet papers, Winston Churchill called a proposed red-dragon design an “Odious design expressing nothing but spite, malice, ill-will and monstrosity” and complained that the motto’s words were “untrue and unduly flattering to Bevan.” We reckon that’s a lot of fuss over a dragon.
