Nestled at the foot of the Carneddau, Bethesda is a slate quarrying town with a backbone of steel and a view that'll stop you mid-sentence. The Penrhyn Quarry once employed thousands. The Dinorwig Power Station is hidden inside a mountain nearby. And the Ogwen Valley is right on the doorstep.

It's the kind of place that doesn't need to shout. It just is.

And then there's the strike. From 1900 to 1903, the quarrymen of Bethesda walked out against Lord Penrhyn in what became the longest industrial dispute in British history — 2,800 men, three years, and a community that held together through extraordinary hardship. "Nid oes bradwr yn y tŷ" — there is no traitor in this house — was chalked on the doors of those who refused to cross the picket line. It remains one of the most powerful acts of collective solidarity Wales has ever seen.
