Cont y Rhew - Hoodie
The word penguin comes from Welsh. Pen gwyn — white head. The Welsh named them.
There is, admittedly, one small problem with this: penguins have black heads. Not white. Definitively, entirely black. Which raises the obvious question of what exactly the Welsh sailors who named them were drinking at the time of first sighting, and whether they'd had several of them.
The leading theory is: yes. Several. Possibly more.
And yet here stands the emperor penguin — Cont y Rhew, the Ice Cont — in a tuxedo it was born in, completely unbothered by wind chill that would send the rest of us into full thermal crisis. It doesn't shiver. It doesn't complain. It waddles with the quiet confidence of a creature that has negotiated image rights deals with the biggest chocolate biscuit manufacturer on the planet and never once done a day's work for it.
Millions of pounds. For standing there. Looking smug. In the cold.
Named incorrectly by drunk Welsh sailors. Monetised brilliantly ever since. An inspiration to us all.
This hoodie won't make you immune to Antarctic temperatures. But it is 280gsm of soft-faced, drop-shoulder warmth — heavy enough to mean business, comfortable enough to wear all day. Designed in Wales, printed in the UK, worn by people who appreciate both penguins and a quality garment.
