The first Eisteddfod took place in Aberteifi (Cardigan) on Christmas Day 1176. It was a sort of It's a Knockout for Poets and Minstrels. The modern day Eisteddfod is like an olympics for poets and singers. Tens of thousands of people flock every year to the National Eisteddfod that moves around Wales, north then South, every year.
