Llanelli — Tinopolis. The town that once made more tinplate than anywhere else on earth, a fact that deserves to be said louder and more often than it is. The tin is gone now, replaced by a retail park, but the identity remains absolutely intact.
The beginnings of Llanelli stretch back to an Iron Age hill fort at Bryn-Caerau on the lands of present-day Parc Howard. The Silures tribe were here during the Roman conquest, fierce rivals of the Demetae, and not the sort of people you’d want to argue with about tinplate. Home of the Scarlets, who beat the All Blacks 9–3 in 1972 in one of the greatest upsets in rugby history — a result so significant it has its own products in this shop: the T-Shirt and the Hoodie.
