Llyn Tegid — Bala Lake — is the largest natural lake in Wales, four miles long and fed by the river Dee. It's also home to the gwyniad, a fish found nowhere else on earth, and allegedly to Tegi, a lake monster who has been keeping a very low profile since the 1980s.

On the shores of the lake sits Glan Llyn, the Urdd's legendary outdoor centre — where generations of Welsh schoolchildren have been dispatched for a week of canoeing, cold showers, and a ghost that definitely lives in the dorms. If you went, you know. If you didn't, you missed out.
