Cardiff City The Bluebirds - Hoodie
In 1959, Cardiff City got their first official badge — and it was a bluebird. Not a dragon, not a coat of arms, not a goat of uncertain heraldic purpose. Just a bluebird, perched and proud, and it changed the club's identity forever.
The bluebird had been the club's nickname for decades by this point — a nod to the 1910 play The Blue Bird by Maurice Maeterlinck, which was popular in Cardiff at the time the club adopted blue as their colour. But it wasn't until 1959 that the bird made it onto the badge officially, marking the beginning of a new era of club identity.
This hoodie celebrates the Bluebirds era: the years when Cardiff City's crest became instantly recognisable, and when a city's football club truly found its symbol. Whatever you think of the various badge redesigns since, this is where it all started.
